The Arnhem and Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences (HAN) and Saxion University of Applied Sciences both have the ambition to contribute to the energy transition in East Netherlands through education and practice-oriented research. A plan has been drawn up to grow, within 8 years and together with companies and other knowledge institutions in the East Netherlands region, into a research group that is also recognized in Europe.
Sustainable hydrogen aligns with the societal need surrounding the energy transition and with a growing group of technology companies in the region. Its decentralized nature fits with mobility and the specific energy infrastructure in Gelderland and Overijssel. Especially in East Netherlands, there are opportunities to implement smart decentralized solutions for the energy transition: playing the game of energy demand, supply, and storage smartly in neighborhoods, cities, business parks, and rural areas. HyMatters has developed a vision and implementation plan for “Decentralized Hydrogen”.
