In Wagenborgen (Groningen), a residential area of 32 houses built between 1960 and 1970 is being connected to a local hydrogen network. These existing homes will be equipped with a hybrid heat pump: electricity will meet their basic energy needs, and hydrogen will be used during colder periods. The hydrogen will be fed into an underground pipeline at a local agricultural business, from where it will be distributed to the homes.
This project in Wagenborgen will provide experience in how hydrogen can be used to meet the heating needs of existing houses.
