Rijnstate is realizing a new and future-proof hospital facility in Elst. The principles of this construction project are a hospital that is built sustainably and provides space for innovative developments that contribute to progress in healthcare. HyMatters has developed and designed an innovative energy concept with a hydrogen supply for Rijnstate Elst. This enables the hospital to achieve its ambitious sustainability goals.
The hospital's energy needs will be partially met by electricity generated from the solar panels present on the site. The surplus solar energy produced is converted into green hydrogen. The hydrogen produced is stored both on a daily basis and across seasons. A so-called “smart grid” at the Elst location determines when it is efficient to convert the hydrogen into electricity and heat. In this way, the local electricity grid is not overloaded and maximum CO2 reduction is achieved on site.
The new system is also future-proof: it is scalable and will grow along with developments in energy use on the site. With this hydrogen supply, Rijnstate location Elst is prepared for the future as a frontrunner. (photo source: www.rijnstate.nl en www.allesoverwaterstof.nl)
